About the Role
The Fundraising and Development Associate will be instrumental in expanding BHS's grant portfolio, fostering strong relationships with foundations, interfacing with donors, and providing support to all fundraising initiatives including events, donor outreach and external communication. This role is highly focused on both written and verbal communication, requiring meticulous attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines. You'll be directly involved in soliciting cash and in-kind donations, working under the Executive Director to support our overall fundraising strategy.
Primary Responsibilities
- Donor Relationship Management: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with donors by participating heavily in the acknowledgement and cultivation of donors by communicating via phone and email, as well as hosting in-person tours at our facility.
- Event Support: Works with our Community Outreach and Event Coordinator to provide comprehensive support for BHS fundraising events, including procuring sponsors, conducting outreach for auction and raffle items, and communicating with donors regarding tickets and event logistics to ensure successful execution and a positive donor experience.
- Sponsorship Support: Provide support as needed to ensure sponsorship deliverables are being provided by working with the Event Coordinator and Executive Director to follow our established sponsorship guidelines.
- Strategic Planning Support: Assist the Executive Director in creating and setting clear goals and developing detailed cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Prospect Research: Proactively research and identify new foundation funding sources with a high likelihood of supporting BHS's mission, ensuring timely submission of proposals and reports.
- Grant Writing & Reporting: Manage grant processes from initial interest to final reports, including writing compelling letters of inquiry, applications, updates, and end-of-cycle reports.
- Content Development Support: Provide support to update templates and tools to create essential content collateral for the fundraising team as needed.
- Business Development: Maintain existing business sponsorships while actively identifying new business partners to support BHS's general operations, programs, and events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications and Attributes
- Exceptional communication skills: Outstanding writing and verbal communication abilities are a must.
- Fundraising experience: 1-2 years of fundraising experience in a non-profit setting is preferred.
- Development best practices: Demonstrated awareness of general best practices in development and fundraising.
- Highly organized and dependable: You are meticulous, reliable, and driven by results.
- Education: A degree in journalism, communications, public administration, nonprofit administration or a related field is preferred, or equivalent work experience.
Position Hours & Benefits
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, that requires the flexibility to occasionally work weekends for events. Some scheduling flexibility is available. Standard office hours are 8:30am-4pm
Compensation and Benefits: $20-$22 per hour, depending on experience. Full time employees are eligible for the following benefits: Health, vision and dental insurance; Paid time off; Paid holidays; Company discounts.
